Beyond a day trip: 7 reasons to stay overnight in Isla Mujeres
A day trip can give you a lovely first look at Isla Mujeres. Staying overnight gives you something different: time to build a holiday around your own rhythm. These seven reasons will help you decide whether several island nights fit your plans. At Casa Milo, you can choose a studio for one or two guests or a two-bedroom apartment for up to six.

1. Start the day on the island
Wake up, make breakfast and decide what you feel like doing. You do not have to begin every island day with a mainland transfer and a ferry. Your arrival journey becomes part of the stay, rather than something to repeat for each visit.
2. Let beach time be part of the day
A beach visit can be a morning plan rather than the entire itinerary. Leave time for lunch, a rest and an evening out. Check swimming guidance and current conditions wherever you go, then shape the rest of the day around what your group feels like doing.
3. Give the north and south their own time
Playa Norte and the cliffs around Punta Sur offer different island outings. Spread your visits across separate days instead of trying to fit every stop between two ferries. Check access, transport and opening information before leaving your apartment.
4. Enjoy an evening without watching the return ferry
Choose dinner around what your group wants to eat, with a plan for getting back to your accommodation. An overnight stay lets you spend the evening on Isla without fitting it around a same-day boat back to the mainland. Confirm your final departure arrangements separately.
5. Have a private base between outings
Being able to unpack and return between plans can make a real difference. Sirenas Studio has a private kitchenette for one or two guests. Casa Milo has a private kitchen, two bedrooms and two bathrooms for up to six. Both are neighbourhood apartments in Colonia Electricistas: choose the layout that fits your stay.
6. Make room for different holiday rhythms
One person may want another outing while someone else prefers a slower afternoon. An apartment gives your group a place to regroup. Agree on shared plans and transport, and choose a layout and guest capacity that work comfortably for everyone.
7. Experience a neighbourhood stay
Casa Milo and Sirenas Studio share a property in Colonia Electricistas, opposite El Varadero. This is a neighbourhood base, so plan transport for beach visits and outings farther away. Rodrigo, known as Rocky, has family roots on Isla, and José, the caretaker, lives in a separate apartment on the property.
When a day trip may be the better choice
A day trip may suit you if your holiday is centred on the mainland, you only want a short island visit, or changing accommodation would complicate your plans. Staying overnight is a preference, not a requirement. Compare the complete cost, actual ferry arrangements and the time you want on Isla.
Turn the idea into a stay
Our five-day itinerary is designed around four nights, with arrival on day one and departure on day five. Use it as a starting point, then check your actual dates, group size and any minimum-stay conditions. Casa Milo is upstairs and requires stairs; Sirenas is on the ground floor.
Check current transport, access and activity details before travelling. Confirm apartment equipment and any individual requirements directly with Rocky.
